Doctor Franklin Chang’s Laboratory in Liberia, Guanacaste has become a nursery for scientists. Over 3,000 students from Schools and Colleges have visited since its opening in 2006. Of those, over 70 students from Universities and Technical Colleges have done internships. The Ad Astra Rocket Laboratories, a creation of Dr. Chang’s, investigates aerospace technologies and renewable energies. Dr. Chang is a Costa Rican born in 1950, a mechanical engineer, physicist and former NASA astronaut who retired in 2005. He shares a record of seven Space Shuttle missions and performed three spacewalks.
