Study shows that in the last 5 years extreme poverty has risen from 5.8% of the population to 7.2%. The population in this category receives approximately $91.00 a month per person in urban areas while in those in rural ones receive just over $75.00. It also shows that although the unemployment has fallen, the unemployment in those of extreme poverty has risen to 42%. On the other hand in the Province of Guanacaste, the most poverty stricken area of the country, with 33.2% of overall poverty in 2014 has fallen to 27%.
