The Fire Department warns that due to ‘El Niño’ (prolonged dry season) in the Pacific and with very heaving rains of late, it invigorates all undergrowth at the end of this rainy season, the public should be aware of dangerous fires with the up and coming dry season. Last year with a lighter ‘El Niño’ effect, there was an increase of more than 100 square kilometres of area burnt in fires.
